Am I Lucky?: Another Set Of Sides – Vol. II Of My Acting Journey

This is one of my new headshots. Going for casual chic!

Sometimes you plant a seed without even realizing it. And when you plant a seed, no matter how long ago it was, you might be surprised when the fruit shows up. That’s what happened to me this week. Completely out of the blue, from a class I took over four and a half years ago, I got offered a role in a feature film. This came through a fellow actor named Sam, who’s working on the film. They needed a “mom” type and he thought of me. Amazingly, I haven’t seen or spoken to Sam since that class over four years ago. Wow. Thank you God and the universe. And thanks to Sam, of course!

And there’s more. Earlier in August, my favorite photographer Michael offered me a free headshot session, which is an amazing blessing. Headshots are expensive! Michael is now teaching photography students, and they always need actors to practice taking headshots. So again, out of the blue, I now have new headshots to add to my casting profiles…for free.

Both of these instances are also an amazing example of the benefits of using social media. Even though I hadn’t seen or spoken to my actor friend Sam all this time, we’ve interacted on Instagram the last several months. It was just a quick comment once in awhile, but this was clearly a helpful reminder to Sam of me as an actor. When I was commenting on Sam’s posts, I wasn’t thinking, “Okay, if I post this maybe Sam will think of me for a project.” I was just enjoying his recent travels.

And the photographer Michael is on my monthly eNewsletters, sent through Mail Chimp, so he’s been hearing from me for over a year. He often responds and is always glad to hear from me. I mean seriously, all this new-fangled technology is right at our fingertips, so why not use it?!

It’s so important to manage what’s called your “Circle Of Influence”, which consists of all the people you know or have met or are otherwise connected to. This circle of friends, friends of friends, co-workers, and collaborators on all sorts of levels, helps to make you the beneficiary of untold opportunities. My goal is to consistently plant seeds in this field of possibility.

I’m so happy to have new headshots, and to be working on a film this week. It feels like such a miracle, which came to me with very little effort. Am I just lucky? When I would see others having this kind of life, I used to get jealous and bitter. I used to think it was all about luck. But I’m beginning to understand that their “magical life” was actually a result of their excellent, steadfast mindset. Now I work on my mindset every day; sometimes several times a day.

This kind of effortlessness is exactly what I’ve been learning from the 21-Day Meditation Experience by Deepak and Oprah. Their recent one is called “Manifesting Your Best Life – Energy Of Attraction”. My husband and I have been doing these meditations over four years, but this series is so empowering that we’re doing it all over again. Wisdom shows us that we already have everything we need inside of us. We just have to recognize it, accept it, embrace it, and live inside the resulting joy.
